Is August Really THAT BAD for a Naples trip?

Hello:
We are considering traveling to Naples, Italy in August instead of June as originally planned, but I've read numerous reports that exclaim, "August in Naples is a BIG no-no!" Despite what I've read, is it possible to experience a good trip during the month of August?
Thanks for your replies

If I can choose..I choose June. If I can't , August is OK You always can have a good trip, if you know what to expect. "Heavier" things first hour in the morning or later in the afternoon-evening, lighter things at midday (or rest at the hotel )... You have a bigger quantity of useful (and quieter) hours in June than in August, but that doesn't mean you cannot have a wonderful time in summer

Part of it depends on what weather you are used to. The temperatures in Rome (well north of Naples) roughly correlate to the weather in Atlanta.

Would Atlanta in August be okay?
(I live in Atlanta. I deal with August every year.)

Maybe just an adjustment..early and late activities. Don't overlook the fact that most 'Napoleans' are out and about. TheUSAs have solved this problem. Everything is air conditioned.

It's one thing to live in Atlanta (or Naples or Florence or Houston or...); it's quite another to be out in the heat and humidity tromping about.

But it is possible to have a good trip in August, and kenderina/GSteed gave some good advice. Also get an A/C hotel room; wear a hat; drink plenty of fluids; do indoor stuff during the heat of the day; etc. You could even get lucky with the weather when you're there.

Hi WT,

Good advice above.

If you have to go in August, it is better than not going at all.

What's your itinerary?
