And since Padraig brought this thread up again, let's continue it, in Liam's honor!

More lovely Celtic music:

Julie Fowlis has a beautiful clear, strong voice, and she just came out with a new CD.

Liadan is an Irish girl group with beautiful, clear strong voices as well - I saw them on an Irish show set in a pub, and went out and ordered their CD, based on a song called P for Paddy.

Both CDs are strong on traditional music/sounds.

"'night, God Bless, safe home..."

Hope he did make it safely 'home'. What a beautiful and gentle voice.

The Clancy Brothers hold a special place in my heart as they were my introduction to Irish music. Way back in the 60's, when we still considered "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" to be Irish music, someone at my dad's "local" in a very small town (of nearly 100% German heritage) in southern Illinois lent him copies of a couple of their albums. What a revelation!

I'm very sad to hear of Liam's passing.

I remember seeing the Clancy brothers at Irish Fest in Milwaukee over 20 years ago and also a few times at different clubs in Chicago. The renditions of "Four Green Fields" and "Parting Glass" would just tear your Irish heart out!!When I heard of Liams passing today I said to my husband that I bet there is a big party in Heaven tonight.

For those interested in the next generation, check out The High Kings. Yes, they are very commercialized (think a male version of Celtic Woman), but one of the four singers is Finbarr Clancy, son of Bobby Clancy. They sing very well, and even occasionally don some Aran Sweaters in tribute to the previous generation.

Sad news about Liam Clancy, a great singer. The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem is perhaps the finest folk group of their time or any other time. Yes, the music in heaven ougfht to be beautiful today as Liam rejoins Tom, Paddy and Tommy.
