Ireland Walking Tour??
I'm a single woman, thinking of doing an organized walking tour in Ireland in May or June. I'm very much an "unseasoned" traveller, so have many questions...
Does anyone out there have any advice/experiences/caveats to share re such an activity, particularly in Ireland? Would it be better to make arrangements through a travel agent rather than online, independently? Does anyone know of any agencies in the Toronto area that specialize in such trips?
Any input greatly appreciated!

I haven't done an HF Holiday in Ireland, but have gone with them in UK, France and Italy and like them very much. They have several Irish walking trips, including http://www.hfholidays.co.uk/classict...land/index.asp.

a travel agency in Toronto which books walking tours..Teachers Travel. The web page at teacherstravel.com has several different companies which offer walking tours. I have familiarity only with HF (holiday fellowship). the Sherpa tour company has some Ireland walking tours...hope this is helpful.

langtongirl,
Being and agent and online company offering walking tours I can give you advice on how to work with both.
Firstly, booking with an agency gives you move of a voice should anything go wrong... we try to sell the best packages but from time-to-time things happen and we're here to help. We deal in volume with tour operators and they listen due to our sales... but if you book yourself, you're one voice. Make sense?
Being online I deal with clients all over the U.S. and Canada and make it a priority to make people comfortable with 1) my expertise; 2) experience; 3) trust.
Ask for references -- which should identify the person and give a contact so you can verify it. A good agency, online or not, will provide that without question.
Check the BBB (or Canadian equivalent) to see if any complaints have been filed. A few clients did that without me knowing and told me I had an A+ report... and gave me the idea to tell people to check. One erroneous report shouldn't hurt your opinion -- i.e. someone hated their trip and complained as opposed to someone paying for one thing and getting another.
Anyway, I hope this helps!
Cheers,
Christopher
