Ireland Self-Skippered Boats

Can any of you locals (irish) tell us about renting a houseboat for a cruise on the Shannon. Ex: What is a good month to go? Is it very busy on the river? Is it ever a problem mooring whenever/wherever you want? Are there plenty of restaurants/pubs at the mooring sites within walking distance? This looks like a GREAT way to see the countryside and we are very excited, we have never been to Ireland. Thanks

Sheryl,
I just booked a trip down the Shannon with Emerald Star for a week's cruising in early September (fingers crossed the weather's nice). Haven't been since I was a wee lass, but remember having a great time on those boats. This time I'm going with my (will be then) husband and another couple.

But check out their website http://www.emeraldstar.ie for more details. It's definitely the way to travel in Ireland.

Enjoy.
