Westport is a great place to stay. There is a pub called Malloys that is owned by Matt Malloy of the Cheiftains, if fact, a grammy sits next to the cash register. There are several B & B's that you could walk to/from town, which worked for us after having a few pints. Malloys has traditional Irish Music that starts around 10:30pm, get there early - by 8 if you want a good seat in the back room near the fireplace and the impromptu music. This is my favorite pub of all 5 of my trips to Ireland. If you decide to drive north of Donegal, look for the town of Gweedore, Enya's father has a pub and its a tribute to her. If you want more specific information, I can look that up for you. While driving, bring along CD's of your favorite Irish music - it will add to the experience. Enya, Phil Coulter, The Cheiftains, for example. And after going to Ireland once, you will be back... it has that effect on you ...

I agree that this itinerary is very busy. Much of it is doable but will be long days. On the other hand, I consider the Malin 100 (100 mile loop) to be a full day in itself. Again, this is a trip that can be done, but you'll see much of Ireland through the windshield of the car. Not my favorite form of holiday.

As regards the coast road in Antrim I have been up and down that road a few times. If I had only one trip I would take it from north to south because you then have the sea right beside you for a lot of the journey. The Cliffs of Moher, and Slieve League in Donegal, are wonderful. I understand that a new interpretation centre has been built at Moher (www.cliffsofmoher.ie) and I wonder how it affects the natural scenery.

Thanks, all. It's helpful to know that the Malin Head drive is a full day's worth. And which direction to go on the Antrim coast. You guys are so helpful! It's back to the drawing board for me...

If you're taking the Antrim coast road, When you get to Cushendun, turn off and follow the tiny Toor Road up the coast from there. At least as spectacular as what you've seen to that point and very little traffic ... which you will be greatful for because the road, though well maintained for the most part, is rather narrow.
