>Ira's gotta change that enery-hogging light bulb for one of the greener ones.<

Better to get mercury poisoning?

Interesting article in this week's New Yorker about light pollution.

People use too many, too bright lights.

Overhyped or not, i think a greener bulb would be better for your image so you don't seem a Luddite!

Ira had me spellbound with a trip report that started with the sentence: "... I am at the Hotel Montmorency in Carcassone, just beneath the outer walls, and am being driven mad by a European keyboqrd (sic)...

BRAVO Ira!

Hey PQ,

You are aware that in addition to containing Hg, CFL last longer than regular bulbs only if you don't turn them on and off "too often"*?

* a currently unspecified number/day

Ira, I have a CFL in my kitchen that I leave on 24 / 7. Do you think that is okay, or should I turn it off when it will not be needed for several hours? The only time it is off is when we have a hurricane. It burns out about every 5 years.

I am fairly new and just pop in from time to time, but I am another Ira fan.

I think that the question should be addressed to PB.

Hi WT,

>Fun thread...I can just imagine him blushing.

<Ira - since i've never seen your bulbs off i assume they are always on.>

wow either ira re-wrote part of my last post or someone else did - weird - can someone explain that one to me - who put that face figure in - clever! Inside job?

About leaving the bulb on 24-7 and lasting five years - i think you are doing the right thing. And you, unlike some Luddites, are saving the planet!

Fodors moderators - please reinstate Ira.

He is a much respected, valued & valuable member of the Fodors
Community.

This decade old thread's sentiments are the same as those we feel today.

It's been so long since I've been to the lounge that didn't realize Ira had been suspended. But I understand why.
