<<No, sorry, I still don't get it either. "it is the only smiley that has an "I"" ??>>

See www.fodors.com/forums/smileys

Next you can ponder such mystifying statements as Arizona is the only one of the fifty states that has a "Z".

To Ira:

I am new to this board so do not know all of the technicalities, but yours is a name that pops up frequently so I'm seeking your advice.

Arriving in Rome morning of 4/2, have to be back in Rome morning of 4/8...Six nights to spend in Amalfi Coast....want to see Capri, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello. No car. Thought about taking train to Salerno and working way back to Rome, but the ferries I thought I could take are not in operation in early April. Perhaps the best way is to arrive in Sorrento 1 night, then head for Positano for 4 nights and day trip to other areas, and back to Sorrento for the last night in order to be near circum. train and transfer to Naples ES back to Rome. What do you think. Thanks.

Hi OrlandPark
>Arriving in Rome morning of 4/2, have to be back in Rome morning of 4/8...Six nights to spend in Amalfi Coast....want to see Capri, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello. No car. Thought about taking train to Salerno and working way back to Rome, but the ferries I thought I could take are not in operation in early April. What do you think?<

I don't think that I would stay in Sorrento for one night just to move to Positano. You can get to the places you want to visit from Sorrento.

You can get to Positano in about 5 hr.
It's not as bad as it sounds. The train ride is pleasant.

Take the train to Rome TE from FCO, take the train to Naples, change to the Circumvesuviana and take the SITA bus to Positano.

You can also take the train from Rome to Salerno and the SITA bus to Positano via Amalfi.

You can fly from FCO to Naples on Alitalia. There is a bus from Naples airport to Sorrento. See http://www.curreriviaggi.it/

We stayed in Positano - abt 6km E of Positano on the SITA bus route. See www.lesirene.com

I suggest that you return to Rome the evening of 4/7

You might find the AC portion of my trip report helpful:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34451044

Have a nice visit.

I've just read this thread and it's clear to me that Ira and Rex are the same person. After all, have any of us ever seen them together?

I also think that Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz are the same person.

I don't think so. One likes to do "ttt."

The other likes to write things like, "You seem relatively new here. How do I know? Click on your name. I think -- that Fodor's is really doing you a great disservice -- by not telling you this more basic tip."

(Rex is a little better with using dashes in the right places, but you see my point.)

The man seems kindly enough and I picture him looking like Sebastian Cabot. He does push that one hotel on the amalfi too much though maybe they give him better accommendations that way.

Ira, be careful you do not become too popular. Or you might start wearing the same khakis every day, advocating "homegrown" cigarettes and sticking your head out of moving trains.

Just had to try it.
The bulb lights the way through all the crap people sometimes post on this board. The proverbial light at the end of the tunnel!
