Ira -- help with self-service tickets

Ira, I am confused about the necessity of displaying the credit card with which the train tickets were purchased. I bought train tickets for my daughter and her friend on-line. Two of the trips were for ticketless travel so I know they are safe without needing to show a credit card for those. But the third set are the "self-service" type. I received confirmation that the tickets are in my daughter's name and they are of course paid for. I understand these are tickets which can be collected from a machine rather than at a ticket window. Does she need my credit card and if so, what for?

Hi, MarieC
Well, I'm not Ira,but I do have some experience with the self-service machines. You do need to insert the credit card used to purchase the tickets (as is the case with similar machines in the U.S., Amtrak and Fandango come to mind) as a security measure.I don't know if there is any way around this, however.

Hi Marie,

I elieve that I answered you on your other thread.

You have some posts from folks who were in Italy since I was there in Oct 2003 who say that all you need is the name and the PRN number.

The reason for the CC was so that the computer could check that the person getting the tickets was the same person who had bought the tickets.

Of course, that is not perfect. They could steal your CC as well as your ticket confirmation.

If you have a duplicate of the CC, I suggest you give it to your daughter, just to be safe.

Ira, I believe the self-service are different,in that they actually require you to pick up the tickets from the machine. If not, they would have sent an e-mail confirmation that you would print out as your ticket.(I'm not 100% sure about that)

Hi massage,

I agree with you, however there are some posters who said that the PRN was sufficient w/o the CC.
