Internet and Digital Camera in Italy
How common are internet cafes in major cities in Italy (i.e. Rome, Florence, Venice)?
I am in the final stages of planning my trip and I am wondering with regards to my digital camera, should I take an extra memory card/jump drive or should I be able to easily download them to a disk from time to time.
Any advice? Thanks.

ilove2travel29 - a 1GB card should be able to hold about 1,200 3MP files.

xD is a different format card. Used by Olympus and Fuji mainly. They are usually about twice as expensive as SD cards. They are NOT interchangeable.
Compact Flash is yet another type of card. Their prices are about the same as SD.

BTW, there are often "free" 256MB SD cards available at ecost.com, after mail-in rebate. Go to their "Bargain Countdown" page and take a look. I say "free" because even if you qualify for free shipping (over $25, I think), there's still a handling fee. Still you're talking about a few dollars.

Going back to the original question, internet cafes are common. I'd take extra memory. We take a small laptop and download, but like the extra memory just in case. When we were in Scandinavia a few years back, we wanted to download the pictures to a disk, but discovered the jump drive for the camera didn't work at any of the internet cafes we went to, and paid, sometimes through the nose, to have the pictures transferred to a disk. It was cheaper doing this in Italy, but still, we liked the convenience of the extra memory and laptop.

I'm so glad you replied, I have been searching high and low on this forum about locations and costs of Internet Cafes in Italy with USB ports and CD/DVD burners, and still haven't found an answer. Everyone keeps replying with 'buy more memory cards' but on a 30 day trip I won't be able to afford enough cards.
Can I please ask how much was it for you to transfer your photos to disk. Please include specifics if you remember (how many Gb, onto CD or DVD, city and name/chain of store).
I keep seeing internettrain on my searches, has anyone use their shops/services?
Any other advice for hard-drive to CD/DVD shops in Florence, Lucerne, Amsterdam, Paris? Thanks!
