Innsbruck or Bad Gastein

I will have 2 days after Vienna and Salzburg and before heading to Munich and am thinking of spending these 2 days either in Innsbruck or in Bad Gastein. What will make a better choice?

I will be travelling around Christmas time and do not ski. I read in CN Traveller that Bad Gastein is one of the best ski resorts for non-skiers. Has anyone been there?

I've been there but only in the summer. It's fairly small with big mountains all around and a stream with waterfalls through the middle of town. It's a gorgeous place to just wander around and has a million spas. Innsbruck is much bigger, more of a regular city (with more shopping and non-mountain things to do) and also has big mountains around.

I have been doing a lot of research for our trip to Germany next year. My suggestion would be to stay in Hall in Tyrol which is about 3 miles from Innsbruck and just take a day trip into Innsbruck. (I believe there is bus and train transportation if you don't have a car.) Hall is suppose to have a better "Altstadt" than Innsbruck. It looks beautiful.
