Vienna is not the most convenient airport to the major ski resorts of Austria.
Munich, Innsbruck, Salzburg much more convenient.
However, at this date assume you have already purchased tickets.
Of the places mentioned Zell is the most convenient for connections by train or auto- by auto 4 hours plus - by train look to
www.oebb.at
Most all resorts have sufficient snow cover so you will see white.
Lech is the most distance from Vienna- high end resort beautiful but not best for beginners.
Mayrhofen is not far from Innsbruck- good for beginners - many english guests.
Also investigate Schladming a good place 1 hour south of Salzburg

We spent New Years in Salzburg and my son skis so we got quite familiar with skiing there. They have a terrific tourism infrastructure and a daily ski bus that makes a round of the various ski resorts (a different one each day) including Schladming, also Kitzbuhl. Salzburg makes a wonderful base to see lots of delightful villages nearby.

When we lived in Vienna, my husband use to go to Hochkar to ski. It's about an hour or so from Vienna.
I did a google search and came up with a few sites that might be of help. Try this one:

We did a home exchange with a couple from Hall in Tirol last December, and it was wonderful. The bus ride to Innsbruck was about 20 minutes from there, and we were able to catch the Nordkettbahn up to a ski resort. We didn't ski either, but it was great to get up there and enjoy a beer while looking over the snow-capped mountains and city of Innsbruck. Just another idea
