information about wine festival in Boppard?

We will be near Boppard, actually staying in St. Goar, the weekend of their wine festival. Has anyone attended a wine festival? What can we expect?

Yes.

You'll probably find the streets filled with music, wine and food stands, and lots of people. Big band stuff, youth orchestras, some German folk music, jazz - very eclectic, usually. There is usually a fireworks show on Saturday night.

The Boppard fest is quite popular if the weather's good. Expect parking to be tight, or use the train from St. Goar.

For exact details contact the Boppard tourist office:

abp, your question made me curious b/c we are in St Goar Sept 25,26 and originally planned to stay in Boppard but could not find a room due to the wine festival. A quick Google search indicates the Boppard wine festival is from Sept 26-29, 2003. So I'm not sure what events are planned for Oct 4, which you indicated in a different note is the day you drive to St Goar... Have I mixed up something?...

The wine festival in Boppard takes place on two consecutive weekends.

I assume you will be tasting wines from the entire Rhine region. Be sure to sample the red wine from Assmanshausen. It's the only red wine produced in the entire Rhine area.

Thanks for the info. We are planning to attend the wine festival and drink some wine! I think we will take the train so we don't have to worry about parking or driving after drinking.

abp: Good idea - the station isn't far from the center in either town. But check the timetables once you're there. Sometimes there are extra trains on festival days. From Boppard, 22:12 and 23:59 appear to be last trains of the day to St. Goar, according to the ww.bahn.de site.
