Info on transfer from Catania airport to Taormina

Hi all,

I'm looking for a couple of pieces of information re transfer from Catania airpot to Taormina.
How much would a taxi cost?
Are there any other reasonable ways of getting from the airport to Taormina eg. train or bus?

Many thanks, MP

I would think a taxi would be quite expensive - it would take 45 minutes - 1hr I would think (guessing)

There are frequent trains from Catania to Taormina. They take 45 mins - 1 hr and it costs really next to nothing(about 4 Euros single, I would guess). There's a bus service to central Catania and the train station from the airport that leaves every 20 minutes (don't know how long it takes though, sorry!).

There might easily be a bus service direct from the airport to Taormina, but I haven't been able to find it.

just found a bus service from the catania airport direct to taormina, run by etna trasporti (www.etnatrasporti.it). click on "ricerca orari" (if you have a pop-up blocker you'll have to deactivate it for this site) and choose your departure and arrival point, and it will give you a timetable. might be the most straightforward way.

Thanks bobthenavigator, 70E doesn't seem too unreasonable considering the distance.

When I did this trip I hired a driver from the hotel for the trip to Taormina, and going back to Catania airport I took the bus, and it was full of African immigrants who all knew each other. Interesting cultural experience!

We took the bus service Vicki pointed you to from Catania airport to Taormina a couple of years ago. It was very easy. Catania airport is small, the ticket window easy to find, and the bus stop was just outside the door with a sign showing all the cities served. If the schedule works with your arrival time I'd save the $ and take the bus.

Forget the taxi, take the bus if the schedule is not too inconvenient. You'll save 65 Euros (or 60 Euros if party of two).
