inexpensive Rome airport hotel

Can you recommend an inexpensive but decent hotel at the Rome airport? We will have returned a rental car the night before our flight and would like to find a hotel that has both a restaurant and a shuttle service to the airport (Fumicino).

Thank you.

Just out of curiosity, what time is your flight?

We also had a 10am flight with rental car return. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Rome-Eur Parco dei Medici. They have a shuttle bus that goes to/from the airport and to/from Rome. The hotel is about 1/2 way between the airport and Rome.

On our last day we drove to the hotel about 2pm, checked in, drove to the airport, dropped off the car, and caught the shuttle to the hotel. For dinner, we took the shuttle bus into Rome, had dinner, looked around, and caught the bus back to the hotel.

We then caught the 7am shuttle to the airport after a huge buffet breakfast.

The price for the hotel was very reasonable. Check with them -- they'll send you the bus schedule.

Why don't you do a google search for hotels and B&Bs in Fregene and Ostia? These seaside towns are 5 minutes from FCO and they have good restaurants and genuine interest and Italian appeal. I'd keep my car until the morning, but if you want, you can turn it in the night before and still get to your hotel in 5 minutes via taxi or local bus.

Thanks so much to everyone for your ideas. We had never considered the possibility of staying in Ostia, and we have never visited the ruins. We've made reservations at Ostia Antica Park Hotel and will plan to spend that day sightseeing. That was a pleasant "plus" for our itinerary. And we'll get to the airport the next day with little problem.

You can consider this post "finished".
