Inexpensive hotel options Madrid

Since I am checking out something very inexpensive for a one night trip this month I thought I would share two properties I am looking at.

Hotel Asturias, 46 euros/night www.chh.es

Hotel (Apt. ) Principe 11 for similar price but has kitchenette and washing machine ( which of course I don't need). http://www.atprincipe11.com. There is a June and July special now.

Hotwire is also offering the Principe 11. But it turns out cheaper at hotel website.

Hope this can be helpful for someone. Just thought I'd share. I am also looking into a few hostals mentioned here.

When will you be in Madrid, lin? Hotel Plaza Mayor has singles for 50 euros.

My boyfriend, Juan Diego Florez will be singing 2 recitals at Teatro Real in early June. I'm sure they are sold out. Will you be attending an opera while you're in Madrid?

I just booked a very nice place that is of the same group as Hotel Asturias. It is for my nephew and myself. 14 day advance bookings are cancellable, have 5% discount and free breakfast.

It is the 4* Maria Elena Palace., www.chh.es 81 euro includes tax and breakfast.

This is a MUCH nicer place and with the breakfast and good location, I hope it will be pleasant.

yk, my dates are June 14th, one night. But we will have two full days as our flight arrives early Sunday morning, and we leave around 6 pm Monday. When exactly is your boyfriend singing?

Casa Patas is closed so we will probably go to another flamenco place as I think he should see some while he is in Spain, and Madrid will be the best place on our short journey.

I have yet to go to the Teatro Real since it was renovated. We had dinner last night with the ( or one of ) the architect who was in charge of its renovation. I can't believe I have never had time to organize some type of visit there. Maybe this time!

yes, I am happy about it. After reading reviews of Asturias and that it was "worn" ( contrary to the lovely photos online) I saw this one and went for it as the two week advance is up if I waited longer.

The nice breakfast will be welcomed by a teenage boy!

Should be a fun trip.

yk.. I was just reading about your friend and I wish I were there to catch that recital. He says he hopes to be back in the future, so maybe I will be lucky some other time.

Off subject, but Maribel and others, since Casa Patas is closed.. which place do you recommend? El Corral de las Moreras?

Hi lin, too bad you'll miss him (JDF) this time, though he is booked every season for Teatro Real and Liceu.

Rigoletto is performed on June 14th.

I second The Hotel Plaza Mayor and the restaurant in the lobby makes a very good seafood paella to boot!

Lin,
If it were my trip traveling with my American nephew, I'd definitely book at El Corral de la Morería.

Hi lin-

The recital by Juan Diego Florez last night in Madrid was broadcast live on big projection screens at Plaza de Oriente. Here's a YouTube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4DJAEGS7fA

You can skip the first 2-3 minutes. At around 7:00 minutes, he showed up on the balcony of Teatro Real, and sang without accompaniment to the audience in the plaza!

Amazing.. what a voice. I wonder if they will put up the big screen for other Teatro Real events? It certainly is a fabulous gesture to share what is going on inside with the rest of the public ...

thanks for the link. I enjoyed listening to him

Lin, I like Corral de la Moreria very much & I have not ever seen Raquela Ortega, & Miguel Tellez only on You Tube, he has an elegant style.

But I think the Suma Flamenca has alot of good stuff happening..have you seen that?
In any case check this out Cardamomo & Las Tablas http://gestiona.madrid.org/sumaflame...io.html#a14jun

The sites need updating I think :
http://www.lastablasmadrid.com/

http://www.cardamomo.net/

and....

Also I am liking Maria Jose Franco's style of dance alot She is at Teatro Lara that same day at 9pm...(I do not know what it refers to "entre actos/Between acts" in this case)

She was here in USA & I missed here but she made an inpact definately. http://www.mariajosefranco.com/

You can make a long flamenco evening of it...
