I just walked the old wall and I humbly admit that I am exhausted. It is very hot (Nina, YES you can swim in the sea and my hotel has a roped off private area for that. Many people in the water everywhere).

The wine country tour was nice. Quite different from California, Switzerland and Italy, where I've done lots of previous tasting. We visited 3 family wineries and had a rustic lunch at one. Cheap wines, some quite good. Vineyards interspersed with fantastic sea and offshore island views. Capo, plenty of curvy, coastal roads along the way.

Il Papa arrives on Friday and the town has put on its Sunday best. Everyone is terribly excited and I imagine it will be a zoo. I fly to Zagreb tomorrow (although I hate to leave this wonderful place... I think 2 weeks would easily be filled with fun things to see and do)

Then on to Bled before I meet another Fodorite in Milano next week.

Mark, Buza surprised me with a startling rendition of one of my favorite songs on the stereo as I arrived. Very serindipitous. You're right about climbing through a hole! I considered asking a Dalmation if I could borrow his ham but didn't

Mina, my hat's off to you! That cross is way the heck up that hill!

Grasshopper...I'm thrilled you are having such a great time! I wish I had done some of the wine tasting...but just stuck to things like skipping rocks in Cavtat, not too far from Dubrovnik.

The hike up isn't bad...it's a low incline that just zig zags back and forth. Queenie, that would have been a romantic spot to propose indeed!

Giovanna, the funny part is that Grasshopper doesn't live that far from me. She's a San Fran gal and I'm a L.A. one. Maybe someday we'll meet...

Grasshopper, enjoy the rest of your trip. There are some lovely hikes in Bled as well. Trail number 6, I believe, will take you to the picture perfect view that you see on many brochure covers.

This is such a great thread! We are going to Dubrovnik in August and I am going to try to check out everything mentioned here. I looked at Mina's photos and they are amazing. They make me ache to start travelling again!

Hi Mina: Glad to know you're also a Californian. I knew Grasshopper lived closeby. Hope someday we do all meet. You both sound so interesting, it would be a real treat for me.
