Immigration question
Hello ...my son and I will be traveling from the US to Geneva Switzerland with a two hour stop over in Dublin. Will we go through immigration/customs there and how much time does it take? Thank you!
Also we will be returning to the US from Scotland....do we really have to be at the airport 3 1/2 hours before our flight?

Ireland is not part of Schengen - so I think you would stay airside there and only go through Immigration in Switzerland I've done that numerous times in London - stayed airside and only went through Immigration in Zurich.
3.5 hours seems long - but I would check with your specific airline.

You will stay airside in Dublin, just follow the Transit passengers sign. Your two hours (if flights are on time) will not actually be that, as the clock starts ticking as you land. By the time you disembark and wlak through, find your new flight gate and board, the time will go quickly.
From EDI back to the US shouldn't need a 3 1/2 hour check in. Edinburgh is not a big airport and I would have thought 2 hours was enough, but not less. However, if they stipulate 3 1/2 hours, there must be a reason, unless it's just to get you to spend money there.

3 1/2 hours might be needed DUB if pre clearing customs and it's not the most user friendly airport time wise.. EDI is a smaller easier to handle airport without pre clearance so 2 hours might just be right 2 1/2 might be better remember the gates close Before departure time.
