IMHO, IMO , LOL???

I'm late to the dance so I'm having problems with some of the abbreviations and symbolism used on the internet. Is there a site that gives these and does LOL really meen lascivious old Lothario as my grandson tells me?

Well, I had this very same problem, too. And then, English is not even my first language.
Here is a web site which I found most useful:
http://www.ambercom.com/amberrose/faq/acronyms.html

IMHO=In My Humble Opinion
IMO=In My Opinion
LOL=Laugh Out Loudly

Now, don't tell me, you can't learn anything from this site!
Greetings from Switzerland.

LOL means "Laughing Out Loud". Here is a site for abbreviations: http://bovis.gyuvet.ch/3dict/390ainet.htm.

IMHO is an oxymoron. There are no humble Fodorites.

THX but after looking at the websites I've decided there are TDM SFLAs so I'll stick to English. I'll save the sites tho.

It does mean honest opnion and possibly humble opinion. According to Webster's Dictionary, one definition of humble is used as a form of politeness.

My favorite is R(olling) O(n)T(he) F(loor) L(aughing) M(y) A(ss) O(ff)
-- ROTFLMAO

These "old" expressions are from a time when we used to have to pay for internet access by the hour. They were timesavers. If you've got a mobile phone with "text" messaging, you'll find yourself making up new shorthand messages (little screens, limited lengths) "C U 2nite" or "Call L8ter"
I'm guessing these too will be considered a necessity for a limited time as technology speeds up.

If IMHO means "in my honest opinion" is there also an IMUO meaning "in my unhonest opinion"?

And in the spirit of some Fodors posters maybe there should be an IMBOWITOOYBAWOEISY, meaning "in my brilliant opinion which is the only one you'd better agree with or else I'll slam you".
