IMHO, IMO , LOL???

I'm late to the dance so I'm having problems with some of the abbreviations and symbolism used on the internet. Is there a site that gives these and does LOL really meen lascivious old Lothario as my grandson tells me?

Ursula Feb 18th, 2003 10:45 AM

<BR>Well, I had this very same problem, too. And then, English is not even my first language.<BR>Here is a web site which I found most useful:<BR>http://www.ambercom.com/amberrose/faq/acronyms.html<BR><BR>IMHO=In My Humble Opinion<BR>IMO=In My Opinion<BR>LOL=Laugh Out Loudly<BR><BR>Now, don't tell me, you can't learn anything from this site!<BR>Greetings from Switzerland.

Grinisa Feb 18th, 2003 10:49 AM

LOL means &quot;Laughing Out Loud&quot;. Here is a site for abbreviations: http://bovis.gyuvet.ch/3dict/390ainet.htm.

Belinda Feb 18th, 2003 10:53 AM

IMHO is an oxymoron. There are no humble Fodorites.

jsmith Feb 18th, 2003 11:47 AM

THX but after looking at the websites I've decided there are TDM SFLAs so I'll stick to English. I'll save the sites tho.

Janine Feb 18th, 2003 10:55 PM

LOL at your grandson's translation of LOL!!

fun4u Feb 19th, 2003 02:11 AM

IMHO means: In My Honest Opinion<BR>dosn't it?

lynlor Feb 19th, 2003 07:35 AM

It does mean honest opnion and possibly humble opinion. According to Webster's Dictionary, one definition of humble is used as a form of politeness.

uhoh_busted Feb 19th, 2003 09:51 AM

My favorite is R(olling) O(n)T(he) F(loor) L(aughing) M(y) A(ss) O(ff)<BR>-- ROTFLMAO <BR><BR>These &quot;old&quot; expressions are from a time when we used to have to pay for internet access by the hour. They were timesavers. If you've got a mobile phone with &quot;text&quot; messaging, you'll find yourself making up new shorthand messages (little screens, limited lengths) &quot;C U 2nite&quot; or &quot;Call L8ter&quot;<BR>I'm guessing these too will be considered a necessity for a limited time as technology speeds up.

Patrick Feb 19th, 2003 10:05 AM

If IMHO means &quot;in my honest opinion&quot; is there also an IMUO meaning &quot;in my unhonest opinion&quot;?<BR><BR>And in the spirit of some Fodors posters maybe there should be an IMBOWITOOYBAWOEISY, meaning &quot;in my brilliant opinion which is the only one you'd better agree with or else I'll slam you&quot;.

hernanc2002 May 10th, 2006 06:46 AM
