I'm Leaving for Paris on June 5!!!!!
Greetings everyone! My family and I are leaving for Paris on June 5. This is our first trip and we are very excited. I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your advice and travel tips. I will check in when I return and let you know how everything went. Although I must warn you --I am planning a trip to Italy for February 2002. My husband and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary then and I think Italy would fit the bill nicely, and I will definitely be writing back for any and all wisdom you care to share on Italy. Thanks again and I'll be back in about two weeks.

Bonjour!

Just returned from a fantastic week in Paris! Am sure you will have a wonderful time! My last minute travel tips: We bought a two day pass for the "Open Tour" bus. It's a 2 decker job with the top open. They make continuous loops to all of the attractions in Paris. You can Hop On and Hop Off. Stay as long as you like. Go back to the Bus Stop and continue on. A great way to see the city ( we even got a tan in the process!) You can buy the tickets on the bus. They also give you head sets to plug in for commentary along the way.

The Louve had a line miles long and I knew my husband would never wait... we then hooked up with a private tour guide(Older guy "Hans the Man") who got us in directly. Showed us where to buy the museum pass and then took us on a two hour guided tour. Saw all the high points and paid him $10. each.
We also splurged and went to the Lido.
Yes, it may be touristy, but we thought it was great! Beautiful show, food very good, and 1/2 bottle Moet Champagne per person. $100.@ but not a bad deal.

Our Metro experience-- be careful. On entering the turnstile, my husband was jostled from behind. He resisted and elbowed the guy. We are not sure if the guy was a pickpocket or just trying to get thru the turnstile without using a ticket... Husband walked around with his money in a clip in front pants pocket and usually had his hand in his pocket when we were in crowds.
Went to Notre Dame on Saturday night (no lines - we got right in) around 6pm and were able to observe a Latin Mass in progress.
The Latin Quarter at night was wild and crazy (kind of like Bourbon Street in New Orleans) , but had a great meal in a Greek Restaurant!
We took our time and enjoyed what we could and didnt drive ourselves crazy trying to see absolutely everything. There's always next time! So have a wonderful trip and enjoy every minute!

Barb-yes, what was the name of the Greek restaurant? A friend went to Paris about 5 years ago and ate dinner in a Greek Rest. (in the Latin Quarter) and she said they threw the plates at the wall-I am not making it up. Did they do that where you ate? I'd love to see that!!!
Patti

Patti: Remember the film "Zorba the Greek" with famous Anthony Quinn who just passed away? You might be lucky and see it these days in remembrance of this great actor. It's very common in Greece to throw plates at the wall although it's usually made in touristy places.
