IKIES in Santorini- need room advice
Can someone familiar with IKIES please help me decide between the Antiquarian or Captain's House?
Terrace looks larger for the Antiquarian suite, but is it less private?
Any advice would be appreciated. Santorini is a "surprise" destination on our trip next year, so I can't have my husband help me decide, and I'm very torn between the 2 rooms.
Thanks.

This reply may be a litle dated.
If you are wanting complete privacy the Antiquarian would have a little less privacy than the Captain's. The Antiquarian is the first of the three terraces, in a row, at the southern end of Ikies. When we were there, we did not note that the "traffic" was all that busy but you would indeed not be guaranteed a "people free" terrace as people do have to walk through that terrace to reach the other ones. The Antiquarian is still a great location with a beautiful view though and I don't think you would be disappointed with either if you aren't too insistent on privacy.
We stayed at the House of the Winemaker, which has the largest terrace which is very private because it is on it's own level. It is truly awesome! (You'll see our lengthy review on Ikies on the Board posted a while ago if you do an "Ikies" search).
Whichever room you select, you willl love Ikies - it is amazing, amazing, amazing. We are in the process of planning another trip to the Greek Islands and we were SO impressed with Ikies and Oia, we want to go back...because of Ikies.
Don't miss a trip to Sigalas winery down the road if you like wine, and if you are so inclined for a short hike up the path from Ikies, an evening, romantic stroll up into the hills to watch the sunset.

Sorry to cut in, but tell me Dave, how close is IKIES to the town, restaurants, etc ? As the rooms have kitchenettes, is there a nearby shop where you can buy food to cook ? What other sights should we take in during a 3 day stay there and are they walkable or are there buses/taxis ?
I'm sure cruisinred will be interested in this info too. Thanks

Before you make a final decision, you may want to check out the Aspaki Suites at the ArtMaisons web site. I don't know how it compares in price but I thought the location in Oia was fabulous and extremely private. I don't think you can beat the view from their terraces. And if it matters to you they all have full kitchens, AC and whirlpool tubs to ease your aches away after climbing all the steps in Oia.

Oia is not large. Nothing is far from the village center. There are several small markets scattered throughout the village. The largest market is next to the cement road near the bus square; it's about a 15 minute walk from the Ikies.
