If the snow is not good in Chamonix what day trips do we do?

We are heading to Chamonix for the last week in February through the first week in March. As we have been reading, snow reports have not been great. I know there is a lot of eating and dring that can be done but can anyone recommend day trips that might be interesting? We like museums, churches, wineries, etc so all suggestions will be considered. Thanks for your assistance.

I think you are jumping the gun on this. There is a lot of time for snow to fall in the Alps and I am keeping my fingers crossed for some great dumps. I too, am headed to Chamonix with the family and expect there to be plenty of snow when we get there. Last year it snowed all through December in Austria and nothing the rest of the months and it was still great skiing. I am praying for some big storms. It is still to early to tell.

If there is no snow, you can always take a day trip to Annecy, which has a nice old town.

Or take the cable car up & over the Alps - it's quite spectacular

Hoping that there is a ton of snow but I am a planner and like to have alternatives available. Is it hard to get to Italy from Chamonix? We don't want to rent a car.

We visited Montreux and Chateau du Chillon on a day trip from Chamonix (rainy day, no hiking). It was a very pleasant daytrip, all by very scenic trains.
