Ideas on how to travel from London to Greece
We plan to fly from Australia to London in December for 5 1/2 weeks. My boyfriend and I would like to see: London, France, Switzerland, Italy, Cicily, Malta, Crete and Greece. This is about as far as we have gotten in planning. We have friends/family to catch up with for a few days in London, but we are more interested in the other areas. What are some must see destinations in these areas during this time? Also, would you recommend hiring a car in France for 1 - 2 weeks and dropping it off in Italy? Is this the best way to see a variety of sites?
Thank you for reading, looking forward to your ideas and suggestions!

Aegean Airlines will offer very inexpensive "saver" fares for the winter. Sign up for their internet email newsletter as well as keep an eye out on their website for notification of those fares being released for the winter months. Expect them to appear sometime in the late fall.

You can fly to all of these places from London, generally by low costs airlines - whichbudget.com
You can also take trains between them - though it's harder to get to Greece these days - seat61.com
And there are extensive ferry routes in the western end of the Mediterranean - but December may be a "bit rough" - aferry.co.uk/ferry-routes.htm

The drop off costs for hiring a car in one country and leaving it in another are prohibitive, so don't even think about if you are on a budget.
If you have 5 weeks to see 7 destinations after London, then you know that it's not possible. Decide what you want to see in each place or consider cutting down the stops to maybe 4. Take a train between countries and hire a car when you get there, depending on where you go, avoiding the liability of a car in places like Rome.

Thank you for your reply, just registered for the newsletter. So you think just flying from country to country would be cheaper? If so how do you then get to a range of places in each country?

Some useful information for your planning....
Sicily isn't connected with Greece... you will have to fly from Sicily to Athens via Rome, and this can be quite expensive.... If you choose Malta instead, there are no daily flights, Air Malta was flying to Athens twice per week ( last time i checked).. So take this into consideration.
Easyjet is flying from Rome or Paris or London to Athens, if you book in advance you can get a super low price.... ( have booked athens-rome and return for 90 Euro )
