ID check request from a hotel????

yes, the hotel that asked me to send them all the information is exactly Hotel de l'horloge!!!!!!!!!
I just read their reply. Patrizia CALITRI, the Assistant Hotel Manager, insisted that "to prove your identity , we need your ID-card, passport or driving licence."
I did book through hotel.com (i usually use expedia, but happened to see a special deal on hotel.com for this hotel).

Actually, I am from Sydney. Upon a quick googling last night, i did find some kind of credit card authorisation forms for some aussie hotels. However these forms just ask for your credit details not your home address, etc. When I travel to New Zealand, all the hotels asked for id/passport plus a credit card UPON check-in.

For whoever read this thread, if you dont feel comfortable to provide your personal details to a not that well-known hotel, please stay away from this Hôtel de L'Horloge in Paris.
