Iceland in mid March

We are taking a Cruise from Bergen on the 25th March. We were thinking of spending 5 days in Iceland beforehand. As we need to be in Bergen for the Cruise I was planning to arrive the day before but nervous incase flight is cancelled due to weather or ash. Would be interested in hearing from anyone who has visited in March or has had any issues with flights.

We went to Iceland in the last week of February a couple of years ago. There were no problems with flights. We hired a car and drove throughout the West coast down to Vic and up to, and around, Snaefellsnese. The roads were all well cleared roads. It was absolutely fabulous.

I think cancellations due to Ash are very rare but we checked that our insurance covered us for that just in case. [not all firms do this]. Obviously weather related cancellations are a possibility {even though they are very well prepared and able to cope with most situations} but I suspect you are out of the worst of the winter by mid March.
