Iceland Express

Has anyone used Iceland Express (the new airline that flies to Iceland with very attractive rates)?
And if you have, how is their service?
Thank you!

If it is the former Icelandic Air, I flew them in 1979. NYC, Rekyevic, Luxembourg City. I liked it.

I think that you are mistaken. It is a new airline that started operating last year. Their rates are very attractive.

I have only used Iceland Air (earlier this year). I understand that Iceland Express fly out of Stansted Airport whereas Iceland Air fly from Heathrow.

I thought Iceland Air reduced their fares significantly to compete/match the fares from the new Iceland Express service. Until earlier this year, Iceland Air had a monopoly on the UK-Iceland route.

I picked up a £99 round trip (excluding £35 taxes) between London and Reykjavik (Keflavik airport) on Iceland Air and they do seem to have lots of these prices available.

Are the fares you are looking at from Iceland Express a lot better than this?

I've been checking both airline sites for flights in June from London to Reykjavik. Icelandair is quoting $500US, while Iceland Express is quoting 150 BP, the equivalent of $280 US.

Gary

I don't know what your dates are but I just put 20-27 June in for a return flight London Heathrow to Reykjavik with Iceland Air and got a couple of options for a £134 fare.

Are you planning on staying a Saturday night in Iceland? If not, I suspect that's why this fare may not be available to you.

Are you looking at these through www.icelandair.co.uk? Another reason maybe that there's a different fare structure on the .com version. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use the .co.uk site seeing as your journey begins and ends in the UK (you'd just pay in £s and it would get converted on your credit card).

I don't know how these fares work sometimes but it's a bit like you guys in the US recently had fantastic deals with BA from the US but from the UK I couldn't even get close to matching those fares.

Please let me know if I can help you any further.

Dave:

I tried that. It works out to only $239, less than Iceland Express. I appreciate the tip. Thanks very much.
