Iceland bound
I am going in december to Reykjavik and have a couple of days to explore and shop. Anything unique to Iceland or a must see or must have. Is it cold, I am coming from Colorado. I am looking to go to the Blue Lagoon and maybe Vik if I have time. I would like to do some shopping and pick up souveniers for the family. I am also very interested in the food, culture and scenery. I will have a car to get around. I will only have about 2-3 days then travel on. thanks

You can include a visit to the Blue Lagoon on the way to the airport for your outbound flight. Tour buses will pick you up at the hotel, wait for you with your luggage, and drop you off at the airport in time for check-in.
Keflavik Airport (Reykjavik) has established itself as a transatlantic hub, and they are extremely well organised.
Knitwear is the obvious souvenir, but everything in Iceland is very expensive.
Icelandic food? How about puffin or whalemeat?

You should try to see the northern lights if you can. Yes, Iceland will be cold then but coming from Colorodo, you should be used to cold.
Just remember daytime will be very short (shortest day of the year Dec 21st). Just plan accordingly.

Unless you are the type who likes everything planned in advance, it is possible to pick up a tour once you arrive in Reykavik.
Tours are available tailored to your length of stay, anything from a few hours to a week or more. These can be arranged at your hotel or the tourist office, bus station, etc.
If you want to start planning now, go to http://www.re.is/. There are many other websites which can be found with a Google search, so don't limit yourself to that one.

I did a stopover in Iceland two years ago when I went to England. Across from the hostel was a hugh outdoor swimming pool, heated to 92 degrees. I went down the slide and I know I felt ice on the steps. The public pool had the only reasonable price in Iceland. Stock up on alcohol at the airport duty free store at KEF. I signed up for the Golden Circle (one-day) tour. You really don't need a car if you sign up for a few tours. They picked me up at the hostel. Take the elevator to the top of the church. Great for photos.
