Not expensive, but extrenely expensive. Think about it - other than fish and lamb, they have to import EVERYTHING from far away.....
Alcohol is almost prohibitive. $11 for one beer... and that was a few years ago...

I enjoyed my visit to Iceland last year. It is expensive, but you can keep costs down. I stayed at a B&B and used the grocery store for dinner. I kept my food costs to less than $10 a day. Iceland is an amazing place - from glaciers to waterfalls to steaming geysers. Definitely plan on going back.
Highly recommend a visit.

Last summer I took a one-week tour through a British company, Exodus. We stayed at very basic guesthouses and most of the food was included. I knew it was going to be expensive but once I made up my mind to go I didn't worry that much about it any more. I did not live lavishly, except a beer now and then, which cost about $9. It will never be a cheap destination.
