Iberia & Air Europa?????

Hi! What's the latest on Iberia Airlines? Are they on strike? OK now? How about Air Europa? My travel agent says they are part of Iberia but Iberia says they are not. Who are they? Are they reliable? THANKS!

Iberia is still canceling flights. Although they say the fllights are mostly internal my friend just learned her trans-Atlantic flight was cancelled. ( She was calling Iberia on an entirely different matter when this information slipped out.) This was about two weeks ago. I had no problem with Iberia in April, but my friends were stranded in paris and this was after calling to confirm their flight. Iberia even charged them extra for changing their schedule. I'd consider another airline.

P.S. I would like to fly from Madrid to Sevilla on Iberia and Sevilla to Barcelona on Air Europa. I don't seem to have many alternatives for flights inside Spain. Can't tell you how much I appreciate your advice. Thanks.

I have an upcoming flight in June from New York to Barcelona. After hearing about cancellations and related problems, I decided to call Iberia directly today. The phone number is (800)772-4642 if anyone is interested.

The woman I spoke to (Paloma) said there have been no international cancellations at all. Of course, reading between the lines, that doesn't mean there haven't been international delays.

Michelle -- what are the details of your friend's cancelled transatlantic flight? Was she rescheduled the same day? Was it a mechanical problem? Related to the labor issues?

Michael

JWILLOW..I tried again..let me know
MICHAEL: Her fllight was cancelled due to labor problems. It took a day to reroute the trip and was complicated by the fact she is using her frequent flyer
miles. JWILLOW and MICHAEL:My friends who were delayed for three days in Paris DID call Iberia and were told all was well. As I mentioned,
I had no problems with my flights in Spain and flew Air France over.If you can select another airline I would, if not, just be prepared for possible problems. I wouldn't cancel a trip over it...no way.

Hi. Air Europa is a different company to IBERIA. They are more oriented towards the internal traffic (although they don´t have so many planes as Iberia, and have been known to cancelled uninteresting destinations within Spain). But I don´t think there should be any problem with your flight from Sevilla to Barcelona. The biggest delays are happening in Barajas (Madrid airport)
I have only flown once with them, and it was O.K., not so much space, but it was a short flight, so it didn´t matter.
Regarding the on-off strike in Iberia, I don´t think it´s going solved in a short period of time. The allegations of the pilots are developing from astounding into outrageous "funny". I think Iberia it´s considering hiring foreign pilots instead.
I really regret it, because I really enjoy their international flights, and many of their people are quite nice.

I was in Spain last week and flew on Iberia Airlines from Granada to Madrid (on May 22). There was no strike last week. Air Europa and Iberia are not affiliated with each other (although, in Granada, they did share an office). There seemed to be more flights on Iberia, than Europa while we were there. Another internal airline you may want to consider is SpanAir. Didn't fly them but noticed the planes while at Madrid airport.

I don't know anything about Air Europa but I wouldn't travel with Iberia if I were you. Even when they are not on strike they are not reliable. And their service (especially on intercontinental flights) is extremely bad. It is the worst airline I have ever experienced. I flew with them from Madrid to Mexico last year and they used stewards/desses who had been flying for more than thirty years and hated every second of it. Food was almost thrown in our lap, they didn't answer any question and they hated every passenger on board. No drinks, no service whatsoever. No more Iberia for me.
