I just returned from Paris. Prior to going, I agonized over what to wear and be comfortable in. I scoured the boards, but this is what I saw. Wear whatever makes you comfortable. I saw a lot of the little spaghetti strapped tank tops and knee length flowing skirts. That is what I bought and was very happy that my choice fit right in. However, I also saw a lot of jeans and capri pants. Didn't see too many shorts, but there were some. The biggest thing is shoes. Yes, the big white Nikes are a dead give away that scream "I'm an American Tourist." I live in Germany, so finding some European shoes was not hard for me...not to mention that they didn't look so bad with my skirts and tank tops.
In short...go with your pink bag...that's awesome. I actually bought a military fashioned bag from a vendor in the Metro! It even says US on it. I figured since I got it in Paris it must be fashionable
A good sized bag that you can fit your travel guides, a journal, camera and a bottle of water in is a must!!!
Enjoy your trip!

I too have a le sportsac that i just bought to travel in spain this summer... it goes across my shoulder/ chest (no way is a thief getting that!) and has a pocket in front (camera and stuff), and a main bigger zippered pocket for everything else.. with another zippered pocket inside.. LOVE IT!! wasn't going to use it until i went away.. but i use it every weekend all weekend. I bought that one in white and b/c i am a nyc-er... i had to buy a similar bag in black (hahahah) to which i bought a Kenneth Cole Reaction bag..slightly more structured shape but still same basic outer pocket and larger main compartment. love it too (going to use it at night as well as during the day when i am in barcelona). i bought both bags the same day in Macys if anyone is interested.. love them both.. great purchases.. also love that they are nylon and can be thrown in the laundry if and when they get dirty (especially the white). can't recommend them enough.
oh! for sneakers.. my most comfortable walk around ones are my adidas samoas (white with green stripes). walked all around istanbul and cappadocia -- even hiking -- in them last summer.. need to find myself another pair i like them THAT much. my one suggestion out of all this is to get a bag that goes across your chest.. comfort and safety is #1.
