I hope Fodors is not really going to implement their new profile page

The first thing I do in the morning when I get on my PC, is to access Fodors and click on "my profile" to see if anyone else has commented on posts that I have commented on. I do this throughout the day. I just previewed the NEW profile page, and it won't work for me. All I get is a lot of info about me - which is of little interest to me because I already know about me. It does not display a list of the threads I've commented on. I can click on "Forum Activity" and it thinks for a while and then displays the threads I have initiated - but not the threads others have initiated and I have commented on.

Fodors folks - If you read this, please tell me that this "New Profile" is not fully developed yet!!!!

Stu,

There's another tab to click when you're in Forum Activity at the right side:
SHOWING: Posts Comments Trip Reports
Click on one of these to show your commented threads.

I suppose you should put this in the Forums Help section but I'll admit I don't know what you are talking about.

Where is this "new profile page"? My Profile is the same as always and I don't see any button at the top or bottom of this page to look at a "New Profile" page. Are you in some secret panel group?

The vBulletin software will probably be set up to allow you to link to a list of your recent posts or recent threads. This is how Flyertalk is set up.

I do think that Fodors has been on a campaign to discourage long-time posters from posting in the forums. The Lounge was closed to newbies, despite its coverage on NPR a while ago. While other businesses like Facebook are driving eyeballs to its website, Fodors is doing its best to lose its audience.

Stu: that announcement/link is more than a year old. Nothing new has ever been mentioned and AFAIK it is old news and is not in development.

Yes - I know. That's 2 extra clicks that were not there before. And the first one takes a long time. That's un-necessary, IMO. If I want to return to where I was before the profile - is that 2 extra "back" clicks also?

>>Where is this "new profile page"? <<
Click on your profile, and when your profile appears, a green banner also appears near the top of the screen. Click where it tells you to click.

Thanks - I never noticed it before. They're a little slow in implementing things or slow removing notices if they are not going to implement it.

If ever we one day migrate to the new platform I doubt we'll a say about anything.

However when you look at how much resources Fodors has put in solving the Korean spams and how laye they already are for the deployment I really don't think pleasing a habit of a regular is high in their list.

Whatever happens you'll have to have your coffe the way they want it not the other way round.

And if they lose a few old timers do what ?

Does anyone know why fodors closed the lounge to new posters?

Why is fodors trying to discourage long time posters?

I haven't been around long enough to be in the know about these things.

Thanks.

There is no new profile page. Don't let Stu's post get your knickers in a twist. If you do click your profile the announcement displays at the top of that page. But just ignore it -- the link is from June or July 2016 and they have moved on. Just never took the link down.

Whatello -- there has been almost no Korean spam in ages. One or two show up but they soon disappear.

Yes but why bother? The link is active but apparently they are not going to implement that format so why mess with it . . .

Their statement that "Your profile page will have a new look soon" caused some concern for me. I just noticed it this morning. If I had first noticed it 1 year ago - I wouldn't be concerned.

My comment about Korean posts is to show how little importance is put on the forum.
It is a low priority.
As for discouraging old posters I am not sure but we are still known way important in a forum. A newcomer will not see if an old hand or a new one is answering. Nor is he really capable of judging of the quality of the answer. Getting an answer is what counts.
Look at the paris forum on TA that I knew well. The quality of the answers is now abysmal and no oldie is still posting. Except some of the worst.
Are there less requests ?
No.
But no old regular could go back. There is no fun anymore.
So my point is that we should be glad with what we have and cope with whatever platform we end up with.

I think the Lounge was closed due to people who were banned rejoining under a new name and continuing the attack that got them banned in the first place.
The new forum will apparently open the Lounge to members who have been here ore than a year. That is troubling some Lounge members who have posted some quite personal stuff safe in the knowledge that it is a closed forum.

Country club life hopefully will be over - every forum should be open to all IMO.

sugarmaple, We don't know the answer to the first question. And we don't know the second question is true.

Not true. They have not announced that. It is only what some posters have *suggested* they think should happen. Read in the Forum Help section, there's a couple threads that will get you up to speed with the new ownership's position on this, if you are interested.

Link to the NPR article or was that a joke?

Lounge is like being in a therapist office, very personal info that should stay private. I remember a very obnoxious poster on the Europe forum that drove everyone nuts about her Italy foodie trip and she was talked about there and wouldn't you know it she had access to the lounge. Hurt feelings and very angry. Some post are just friends wanting to vent and seek advice. If they open they need to start with a clean slate.

If the Lounge clique wants privacy form your own Face Book Page and restrict access to it.

Open Lounge to all or close it down!

Pal, there is a Facebook group. Not everyone is on Facebook or wants to join Facebook, me for instance.

Anyway we have to wait and see what happens when (if) the new format eventually arrives.
