"I Have More Reservations I cannot Use"

Hi All,

I am currently book ed at the Pullman Montparnasse, Paris for the nights of Sunday, Sept 25 and Monday, Sep 26, 2016. The price of the room is 425 EUR. Breakfast is not included.

I shall transfer the reservation for 215 EUR, if they will let me.

I should know by midweek if this is doable.

I don;t know yet

Ira, I am so sorry you are having to give up these reservations. I'll be in Paris then but already have an apartment.

I just checked on www.hrs.de and I found that the room rate for this date is € 179.11 for a standard room and € 203.51 for a superior room.

The fully flexible rate for a standard room is € 219.96 and for a superior room € 249.96.

It is the Pullman Paris Montparnasse, 19 Rue Commandant René Mouchotte, 75014 Paris, from 25 Sept 2016 to 26 Sept, one night, one double room, two adults, right?

The original post says the reservation is for the nights of September 25 and September 26, so two nights.

You are right, Nikki. Here in Europe we do it in a different way, hence the misunderstanding!

It seems pretty clear these are nonfundable fully prepaid reservations or Ira would just cancel them. Often they are also non transferable but it seems he has that covered with the hotel.

Hi guys,

Seems I can neither change the dates nor transfer the reservations.

Sorry.

I am really sorry to read all of this and yes, spare me the lectures about pre-paid and non-cancellable reservations but I think the refusal to transfer is a rather blatant revenue grabbing behavior. I mean, even if you paid some sort of transfer fee for COL?

Bottom line, even though I am probably already dealing with companies who routinely do the same thing knowing it is a Pullman which I believe is part of the Accor group makes me reluctant to deal with any of them.

And Ira, yes I do feel your pain. I just got off the phone with British Airways about the real possibility of cancelling an upcoming flight and two ClubWorld tckets and asked what, if any credit I might get, exact cancellation fees, etc., and was told, "You'll have to call back after 48 hours and then we'll know."

It is a business, if that is "revenue-grabbing". We don't even know what's going on here, lots of people might buy cheap prepaid reservations to save money and then decide to cancel or resell them to someone else at a markup. We don't even know if these were paid for or won in a contest, for example. In the ticket world, that's called scalping when someone comes in and buys a lot of stuff and resells it. Ira says this is a bargain, but just allowing people to buy cheap prepaid stays and then resell them isn't anything I think a hotel should allow, myself.

I don't buy prepaid hotel rooms, and if I did, I'd buy travel insurance.

OK, Christina, keep up the conjecture and I shall continue to believe that not allowing someone to transfer a reservation is revenue-grabbing.

This is not "the ticket world" BTW.

But if someone has paid for the room, and it's occupied by the same number of people, what has the hotel lost?

Hi Ira,

it may indeed happen that we take your reservation.

We will vacation on the Côte d'Azur in September and on the way back we will visit a friend who will have a scholarship at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris, so we may visit him.

However, nothing is set in stone yet and I am afraid we need a couple of weeks to get things sorted out.

Sorry that you can't get a quick confirmation from us, but there is a realistic chance that we take your reservation.

I agree that there isn't a real loss to the hotel. Why not let a customer transfer the name?

traveller - it looks as if it's not possible as the hotel will not transfer it - see Ira's post at 6.46 pm.
