I cancelled our trip to Paris

It seems to me the issue, for those of us who may or may not have the heart to go forward or make plans, is subtler than naked fear, wanting to be carefree in a place that isn't, and should not be expected to be, just for a while. I'm not afraid but I feel as if I may be intruding, when I can wait and while I do, feel support for people without requiring anything of them. Not forever, just for the moment.

And everyone else, while I apologize for derailing this otherwise thoughtful and interesting thread, and I don't blame everyone for ignoring it, this poster's behavior has already gotten him banned from one Fodor's forum. All I am asking is that he stop addressing aggressive comments to me personally. I have reported him for stalking repeatedly and taken to avoiding him, but I made a mistake late last night and now he is after me again.
Sorry, again, for the digression.

I don't fault you
The President of the USA dancing a tango in Argentina was a bit unnerving while Europe mourned. When the world needs leadership, a tango? It is a weird omen of danger. The 'Last Tango in Paris' isn't the type of vacation most people want

limmy, this poster developed a pathological dislike of me after I disagreed with him repeatedly. He has little tolerance for being disagreed with, but when women do it, he has a history of going off the rails. He got banned from the Lounge for exactly this reason.
I used to argue with him, but now his stalking is honestly just freaking me out, and because the mods refuse to do anything about all the posts of his that I have triangled, my new strategy is to just be on record in case he escalates in any way.

The number of wounded is important and some of the people are not quite recognizable. They had either no papers on them or the papers were lost in the blast or in the evacuation.
I suppose taking a pic and showing to relative might be more unsettling.

Back to the main topic.
Mrs. P and I regularly plan maybe a trip to Paris and France this year. This year she is not planning, but not out of fear of a rare bomb. It's more practical. A bomb anywhere can mean the city will be bottled up and transport stopped for several days, which can make for a no fun vacation. She did the long dusty walk from lower Manhattan to Brooklyn on 9/11 without injury, so I see her point.

From an article in the morning's NY Times which sees to be echoing what intelligence and security officials throughout the US and Europe have been saying:
“I think the biggest problem lies in the different levels of professionalism among the security services in Europe,” Guido Steinberg, of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, told German public broadcaster ARD on Wednesday.
“We have an enormous number of well-equipped states such as France and Great Britain, to those who are weaker such as Germany, to those who are completely overwhelmed such as Belgium,” Mr. Steinberg said.

There is will incidents, but for the traveler, the concern should be which country protects their own citizens in a competent manner. Two years ago, unbeknownst to us, we stayed in an immigrant area of Brussels and across the river from the area which is described as a hotbed of jihad. It was active like any residential area but there was not threatening action or person. I would return to Belgium but not stay in that area.

What a typical ignorant comment from the Lounge mindset. IMO, leadership is precisely NOT ending your travel plans because some insane religious cult – who love death over life, who place death above the lives of their own children for their senseless cause – would love the attention of the U.S. President and the power to disrupt his official plans.
I say travel on and a big FU to fear.
