kane and swalter,
While at Casa Rezzonico, we got a long concert of church bells at 7am as well, so that must be the norm.
I looked back in my restaurant notes, and here are the two places we really liked that are nearby (keep in mind this was over a year ago):
Trattoria Due Torri in Campo Santa Margherita.
Taverna San Trovaso. Please don't ask me where it is, lol. I think it's towards the Accademia. It's been talked about here on fodors, though. The front desk will also be able to direct you to some good places.
There's a floating produce market on the canal by the hotel. So cool...there is also a nice market in Campo Santa Margherita in the mornings.

I just saw the mention of Taverna San Trovaso, where I have been to more than a few times always with rather positive experince, especially quality vs price wise. It is located on the Rio di San Trovaso canal which runs between Grand Canal and Giudecca Canal. On the other side of the canal, there is well known Pensione Accademia. I thinks it was the reception of P.Academia who recommend it to me the first time. Often I see many Americans there lunch and dinner and quite a few locals at late lunch hours. You can refer to the following map for the location I discribed.

Taverna San Trovaso is especially good for a group your size, because they have larger tables. Our group of 6 ate there twice earlier this month, and we were seated beside an Italian family of 12 people! I would call or go by at lunch if you are planning on dinner, so they will reserve a table for you.

<anyone know about Hotel Canal & Walter in venice?> they have a website at canal.hotelinvenice.com. it is a 3-star by Santa Lucia/the train station. Rooms in high season are 190-210 euro.

kane, I only posted 1 idea (Canal & Walter) for daffy_traveler who asked specifically about hotels near the train station. I have see it often mentioned here on Fodors & checked out its website. Sorry if this derailed your original question.
I have no idea exactly HOW close it is to the station because I have always stayed in Dosoduro myself.

I_am_kane: For a reasonably priced meal, consider Casin dei Nobili, just off Campo San Barnaba. It was recommended to me by the B&B where I was staying, but when I went, it was full of Italian families and tourists, roughly half and half, and I didn't wait for a table to become free. It has had a number of good reviews here, which you can probably find if you put the name into the search box. It's also quite a large place, but if you want to seat 10 people together, it would probably be wise to reserve.

suze,
Always good to have your imput. You have a history of being very helpful.
Eloise,
I thanks for the tip on Casin dei Nobili being able to handle a party of 10.
I appreciate all the restaurant recommendations everyone has mentioned. Venice is going to be a challenge feeding my family...they are not fish eaters, and what they do eat, they are very picky about.
