Hvar to Mostar: how long?
We're in the midst of planning a trip to Croatia for next May/June. We're looking at getting from Hvar to Mostar (we'll have a car), which doesn't look too far on the map as the crow flies. Realistically, how long should this take? Half a day? most of a day? Thanks for any information you can pass along!

It doesn't look far, but it can be. I would advise you to take the ferry from Sucuraj (on Hvar) to Drvenik. From Drvenik you head south to Ploce and then turn to Metkovic/Mostar. Don't worry, there are road signs...
2 hours and 39 is a dream and dreams are not true. You already need something like and hour to drive from Hvar town to Sucuraj. I would estimate that you need at least 4 hours (conservative estimate). Unless you are in Sucuraj already, which is not so likely as there is not so much to see.

Thanks for the info CroatianCrescent. Your blog looks great, by the way. We're not completely set on Hvar as our island destination. I picked it because of the vineyards. Is there another island that would make the trip to Mostar quicker? We'd like to stay someplace beautiful and typical, and hopefully not too touristy since our next stops will be Dubrovnik and Rome. I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks!

Glad you like the blog.
It does not really matter which island you're on, that is for the distance to Mostar. Korcula town is a very nice place of the island of Korcula. In a straight line it is closer to Mostar, but it takes more time to get to the mainland by ferry as you need to go via or get around the peninsula of Peljesac. A look on Google Maps will make it clear.
Hvar town is very touristy is summer. Starigrad, not far from Hvar town, is much more quiet but equally charming. Don't miss the Hektorovic palace there. You will not find hidden gems along the Croatian coast any more. Only continental Croatia and the hinterland is not touristy. When you drive to Mostar you will understand why: there is not that much to see.
