I spent just two days in Varenna, but it was truly stunning. I'm sure that everyone has their preference, but there was nothing better than the sun setting behind the mountains while sipping on a beer with live music playing beside me. Enjoy your trip!

Varenna also has the advantage of being right on the rail line to Milan - from Bellagio you have to take a boat back to Varenna or a boat or bus to Como to join trains to Milan.

I would change hotels and stay in Varenna, simply because the views of the lake are so much more grand. You also benefit by having less hassles with luggage.

April can be a rainy month. There's plenty to do and see on the lake, but if it rains, I'd want a fabulous room with a view to entertain me until it passes. A Spring storm on Lake Como can be gorgeous and exciting to watch, but not from Bellagio.
