Jean is correct we had a direct train trip from Salerno ( Amalfi) to La Spezia, leaving at 6.15am and arriving around 3pm. Then local train to Cinque Terre. Depending on the station you arrive at on Amalfi it is quite a bus ride to the coast eg Salerno - Amalfi (1hr)

Wouldn't Pisa to Naples be closer?

whichbudget is pretty cool guide.

if there was no big rental drop off fee id drive so this way i can control my departure time, stops etc.
