If you really can't find anything at all, try Priceline for Nice. There's not much hope, but who knows.

What are the exact dates? Maybe we can help look for you if we know that...

What great people are on this forum!!! How I thank you for your input and offers to help! We will be in Nice on 25-27 Sept, and I miraculously just heard back the Hotel Mercure (near Old Nice)that they have a room!! So relieved! I had hoped to be in the 80-100 euro/night range, and that is what their website indicates. Their offer is for 136/night,but at least I can get a room. I wonder if they discount the rate for cash like some Italian hotels.

Hopefully you have located a room. The big think you haven't heard about is the art in this area. The south of France atrracted many famous artists because of the beautiful weather and topography. There are several good museums in Nice. The Matisse and the Chagall museums are both very good. I also love the Villa Ephrussie museum in the neighboring town of Cap Ferrat. The gardens are amazing. Here's their website.

I found a couple of inexpensive hotels with some reviews on Tripadvisor. The reviews are generally good, if you aren't expecting too much for the price. I have no personal knowledge of the hotels or their immediate surroundings...

Hotel Vendome *** Twin 105E

I will be staying at Hotel Acanthe (listed on Eurocheapo.com) from 30 October for two nights. I have reserved a double room with a view to Jardin Albert 1er's fountaine for 53Euro (thought I should go cheap on this long weekend trip to economize a bit because I will be spending more on my Venice trip 3 weeks later.)

Has anybody had experience with this hotel? I couldn't find any comments on Fordor nor on tripadvisor.com. Unless there are negative comments I will try this hotel anyway and maybe report here later. The two girls I spoke with on the phone were pleasant enough and I will not complain about details at this price.
