Easy - by train! From London Kings Cross it will take about 50 mins. Use this website to plan your journey:
www.nationalrail.co.uk
You don't have to book tickets in advance, but go after 10am and it will be cheaper (because you miss the rush hour).

Train from London Kings Cross to Cambridge -- takes about an hour. Then bus from Cambridge station to Duxford. There should be a free shuttle bus, ask at the tourist desk in the Cambridge rail station. Try to make time also to take the hop on/hop off bus from the station out to Maddingley, the American cemetery that is the final resting place for many World War II airmen. It is an incredibly moving experience.

Agree with vcl - if you can make time for the hop on and off bus the American cemetery is well worth while -very moving.
Hope you enjoy the air museum as much as I did when I tagged along with my husband.

I was there about 5 years ago and it was very big and well done. Wear good comfortable shoes!! As I recall, there were about 5 hangers as well as many outside exhibits, including an SST. There was a shuttle bus that would take you from hanger to hanger. Also a place to rest and have a cuppa.

We visited the air museum in Duxford a few years ago. The Duxford Air Museum bus is located right outside the Cambridge train station.
I highly recommend a trip to the American Cemetary. Use the hop on/off bus OR just take a taxi. It won't cost much (a few pounds) and it's well worth your time. A WWII commrade of my uncle is buried at there and we placed flowers on his grave. Took videos and pictures for the family --- a very moving experience.
