I've made eight trips to the UK -- always from DFW to Gatwick. Now I find that AA no longer goes to Gatwick, so I will have to go into Heathrow. That's pretty scary to me, and so far I haven't been able to get any information about a train from Heathrow to London.

Can someone tell me how to get from Heathrow to Chester, England? I would very much appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

Buses, direct I would think from the airport, would probably be your best bet - check National Express web site - by train you have to go into London to Euston Station to catch direct trains from there - a real pain so look at bus connections.

But in your case, take the Tube to Kings Cross, walk 10 minutes to Euston, then train to Chester.

Book several weeks in advance for best fares, allow 4 hours between landing and train.

Better still book your air ticket to Manchester instead

Hmmmm, everyone of you has a different solution. Perhaps I should give you a little more information. I'll be going solo and I'm 79 years old. LOL I think the tube, with my luggage will be a bit difficult to accomplish. At least it was when I was MUCH younger in London.

Right now I'm thinking the bus route may be best, but how expensive is the air ticket to Manchester? Thank you all for your input.

I would never plan on a bus trip all the way to Chester after an overnight flight.

Your easiest options (considering luggage and all) would be 1) to fly in to MAN. And 2) If that isn't possible then pre-book a car service like justairports.com from LHR to Euston Station -- should cost about £30-£35. Then train to Chester.

Yes buses take a lot longer than I may have surmised - 5 hours the quickest and only a handful of services a day - instead of that pricey private car hire you can take the Heathrow Express to Paddington then by normal and cheaper cab to not far away Euston - there are some nice discounts on the HEX site I think - maybe for couples but check it out:

The Heathrow Express will take 20 minutes to get to Paddington - any road transport can often get mired in London's obnoxious traffic - it could take a lot longer - the trains is a dedicated airport train with lots of room for luggage and serves all terminals. And no need to have to tip the train driver!

Really a terrible idea - especially since you are concerned w/ your luggage. First of all one needs to schlepp the luggage to the HEX station (a long trek) and then queue for a cab at Paddington.

Anda car service will be cheaper than the HEX + a cab. And even is if wasn't, a car service is door-to-door and you wouldn't have to deal w/ you bag(s) until the car drops you AT Euston.

There are no direct daytime buses. Apart from one overnight direct connection (dep 2359, arr 0505) all take 7 hrs or so and involve changing at Birmingham.

Which, in my view, is marginally less hassle than the horrors of getting from the Heathrow Express to Euston in the morning rush hour.

The least-stress option is to change your flight booking from the US to Manchester (if necess, changing at London or Dublin) then the train from the airport. Or prebooked car from LHR to Euston, then a 2 hr train.

Fares vary a lot according to when you travel. Off-peak is cheapest. There's a frequent service to Chester. If you go for the trains ten minutes past the hour, there are no changes.

Euston is pretty user friendly. Train times and platform numbers are posted up in the main concourse and in the eating places.

You can route yourself on American from DFW to Manchester through Philadelphia.
