The post offices have automatic machines now. Select english, put item on the scale and follow on screen prompts. It prints out the stamp for you. You pay with change and there are change machines in the post office as well.

These machines are always broken when I try plus they print out an (ugly IMO) large label not a stamp...

Please tell me where there are working stamp machines, it will make my life much easier =)

soonerstarla,

Coincidentally, before the last time I went to Paris, my sister and I started seeing a French tutor. She ended up moving back to Paris, so we only got about 6 weeks of instruction.

The phrase we struggled with more than anything else was the "Je voudrais (or nous voudrions) dix timbres pour ces cartes postales aux Etats-Unis s'il vous plait."

We would say it and say it and say it again, but she was never happy with our pronunciation!

You better believe that as soon as we got to Paris, I went to a post office, started out with "Bonjour, Madame..." and then completed my little sentence.

My sister told me it was the best she'd ever heard me pronounce it. And now I don't think I'll ever buy timbres again!

Bon chance!

Moxie , the stamps are ugly and large, I agree. If I want a pretty stamp I wait in line. I have never run across a machine that is broken however. My post office in the 12th off of Place Felix Eboue has one that always works.
