How to book Hotel du Lys in Paris?

Hi,
I have been on their website and have written 2 emails without a reply.

I've also called them directly and keep getting the "housekeeper" who tells me to call back.

Any advise/tip is appreciated. I will be in Paris in less than a month and knowing that this is high season, I am quite anxious to get the booking done.

HELP......

I was wondering the same thing. The only time a housekeeper would likely be answering the phone would be at night (and then it would usually be a night desk clerk, although he may not make reservations). IN the day, I guess once in a while someone might have to take a break but then usually no one else will answer the phone at the desk.

Best time to get reservations is usually late morning Paris time, in my experience. Earlier, they may be busy checking people out and sometimes they leave in late afternoon (or sometimes for a lunch break).

"Great Sleeps in Paris" comments:
"If you are reserving by telephone please bear in mind that Mme Decharne is usually only at the hotel on weekday mornings from 9am to noon."
They obviously don't need to worry about filling their rooms

My experience has been that some of the smaller hotels, like du Lys, do not respond if they are filled for the nights requested. And I would guess that du Lys is not available for less than a month away at this time of year; I think it provides very good value for the $$, and it's no longer a secret! When I've stayed there I've always had reservations 2-3 mos. ahead. Good luck!

I've found that some hotels don't bother to respond if they are totally booked. However, others will take time to let you know so you aren't left wondering.

THanks for all the feedback. You were right.....they are fully booked. And yes, I did call in the evenings. But is that how one should treat future customers....?

Well, obviously business is too good to care : )

Thanks again for the feedback. Much appreciated!

I have had some European hotels not respond when fully booked when I wrote by FAX, but since emails don't cost anything, they should have responded to an email. However, it's not a good idea to call a hotel in the evening to make a reservation, that will usually not work except in large, expensive hotels.

Hi Travelnut,
Yes, I decided to go with Best Western Tour Eiffel.

I was really hopeing to stay in the St. German area, but alas....I must come better prepared next time : )

This is what happens when one gets too wishy washy and when they finally get down to making a decision, nothing's left! Story of my life...

But....we have stayed in the 7th arr. i.e. Eiffel tower area before, and it isn't bad. It's just not where everything is happening.

Will do a trip report on the hotel when I get back.

Thanks for the followup.....

yes....sorry for the whining.....it's just one of those days. Should be glad that we'll be in Paris anyways.

I'm leaving for Japan in Nov and it seems that it's big time peak season in Kyoto and all hotels are fully booked. I just want to whine and complain today! Haven't figured out what to do yet. bummer......

But in the meantime, I will enjoy Paris....... thanks for your support!

It's a frustrating experience, so I sympathize with you. With smaller hotels I think it's always best to call. Fortunately I get up early on weekdays anyway, so it works fine for European hotels.

Good luck with the Kyoto hotels. Maybe you should again call instead. I'm in the process of booking six hotels and leaving on Friday for my upcoming trip, so I need to vent as well.

Have fun.
