I will have a Eurail pass when traveling through Europe, but here is my predicament: In the interest of time, I would like to take an overnight train to get me from Venice to the South of France. There seems to be a direct night train from Nice to Venice, but I cannot find one from Venice to Nice. Is there one? I have, however, found on from Venice to Monaco, but it has no 2nd class seating, and since I will have a youth Eurail pass, I do not think the pass gives me a reduction on first class accommodations, right? The full ticket price on that overnight train to Monaco is $175 - anyone got any overnight train that gets me from Venice to that area for less? I'm on a pretty tight budget, but I also really want to save that extra day. Any help would be great, this is the one major hitch in the trip I am planning this summer. Thanks!

You have to take the train from Venice to Milano, then change to get to Genova and then a train to Nice. This is an easy trip and can be done throughtout the day. Example if you jump on the intercity from Venice to Milano at 0900 you would be in Milano at 1100 then grab the train to Genova that 1200 and be there by 1400 then no later than 1500 you would grab the train to Nice which is about 2 hours.
There is always second class seating, the web is not always helpful.

The 22:51 out of Venezia San Lucia is bookable online as early as 90 days out.

It has only sleepers, so you will have to pay a supplement.

You can collect your ticket at any train station in Italy (nearly) or travel agent.

Trenitalia lists that train with 2nd and 1st Cl. seats as well as sleepers.

It shows only T1, T2, T3, C4 and C6.

Prices in 2cl show only T3, C4 and C6.
Prices in 1cl are single or double sleepers.

I don't know where you're looking, Ira.

Anybody know if the reversed can be booked online? We're trying to go from Nice - Verona during the day, and the SNCF doesn't want to cooperate. Looks like you can buy on Trenitalia, but have to pick up tickets in Italy. I would consider just shownig up for the train, but there is a change in Milan with only 15 minutes between trains, and I'd be nervous about having enough time to get tickets for the second leg.

Just wondering if you had any luck booking this. I've been trying both SNCF and Trenitalia to get an idea of the price for a Venice-Nice overnight ticket. I tried putting in dates that were less than 60 days and neither website worked.

With the help I've received on this thread combined with MorganB's amazing SNCF Superthreads, I think I'm going to call SNCF directly and have them mail the tickets to me. For some reason I can't get the darned Trenitalia site to give me those tickets! I Can find the listings of train rides offered, but under the "acquista/purchase" column, it says "no," and I can't find a way to change that I made certain that I was not looking to far ahead, tried everything from 4 months out to less than month and no dice. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong I'd appreciate it.
