how strict are jet2 on baggage size?

We are traveling with jet2 from Manchester to Venice and then from Pisa back to Manchester. We are fine on weight for our bags. The problem is the dimensions for the hold baggage. We want to take our usual padded (somewhat professional) camera bag which is like a backpack. It fits height dimensions and if it is squished it will fit depth and width dimensions. So I believe it would fit in the compartment or under the seat because we could squeeze it in since it is padded all around and we could do this without damaging the camera equipment. But...if they just take a quick look at it or measure it, it would come out too big.

So...for anyone who has traveled jet2...how strict are they? Do they just wait til you get on board and if it doesn't fit, make you check it? Or would they measure it at check in and tell us yes or no?

On another note...we usually bring our kids booster seats - bottoms only - as hold baggage for the kids in a carry on bag. It fits in the overhead compartment of most planes (even on easy jet). But the two seats together are beyond jet2's dimension restrictions. It's unclear whether they would let us carry them on since they are car seats. I see something on their site that says
"Child car seats for use at destinations, may be carried as Outsize checked baggage at no additional cost (subject to its weight, or combined weight with a buggy, not exceeding 10kg), strictly on a limited release basis."

What exactly does that mean? Does that mean we just have to show up and see what they say?

Thanks!

in my experience, they say if it does't fit under the seat or in the compartment above, the stewardess will put it somewhere for the flight. They have those large closets at the entrance of the aisles. They're not going to send you back after you go through & pass security.

I forgot about the child seats. That means they want the car-seats checked, like with the luggage, so the airline is telling that if a buggy,(carriage) is checks AND a car set, they don't like that. Also, the airline is putting a specific limit just in case someone tries to check in say a crib, and call it a buggy. The airlines has to specify unreasonable wieghts for that one person that's moving a household of baby furniture under the guise of 'buggy' or car seat. Your fine with 2 car seats, or booster seats.

Thanks for the response. We're just nervous about it being camera equipment. If we show up assuming it will fit and they tell us we have to check it, we'll be in trouble since we won't want to check the camera through. I'm thinking maybe we can fit a belt around it or something ahead of time so that it is already just about squished down to the required dimensions so that it shouldn't even be an issue.

Anybody else have experience with jet2?

yes ichcat: my first trip to Germany, Paris & France-not my first trip flying. I just flew to D.C. & back 2-weeks ago. The stuardess announces "If anyone has items that don't fit under the seat, or in over-head storage," they will store it for them. So, just trying to help, is all. Anyways, I'm still checking out advice, haven't left yet, & the Euros and trains are confusing to me - not the airlines-any line.
