CDW is NOT a "waste of money" even when you are a FABULOUS driver and then another NOT-FABULOUS driver runs into you. It can be worth every penny to give you peace if mind AND keep your own primary auto insurer OUT of the process.

TopMan--it's a bad buy financially.

Also, if someone else hits your car, their insurance company pays, not yours. You are not at fault and it doesn't impact your insurance record at all. If they are at fault and don't have insurance, then your uninsured motorist coverage kicks in, and, again, your insurance record is not impacted.

However, as I already stated, if you are a worrier, then it could be well worth the price for peace of mind.

Italy you defintely need the CDW. I just added the AmEx gold rental car insurance package to our car rental in France. I might be wrong, but I think the AmEx program does not apply in Italy.
