How many pictures do you take on vacation?

Emily, remember the number of pics per card depends on the size of the pics. My 300+ pics per 512Mg card are based on 3.2Mg pics. If your camera is better (say, 5Mg) you will get fewer high-res pics on the 512Mg card than I will. Plan accordingly!
And if you have non-rechargeable batteries, buy them BEFORE YOU GO -- they are expensive in Europe!

We are just back from 16 days in Paris, Normandy, Brittany and Loire Valley EmilySD - we loved it - hope you will too.
I came home with 1,179 pictures. Like others I sometimes take multiple shots of the same pic, maybe a slightly diff angle, or turn the flash off, whatever. I am in the delete mode right now going through the pics.
The one thing I do not like about my 512k chip is that it makes the camera slow to start when I turn it on. Sometimes the picture opp is gone by the time I am ready. My smaller chips are much quicker.

I have a 256 mg. card and had to download it to a CD while I was in Venice (Mestre actually--cost 5 euros as opposed to 8 in Venice.) The camera says it will take over 300 pictures at high resolution (It's a 3.5 mg. camera). All together I took about 550 pictures I think in 19 days. Don't know exactly, because I erase bloopers as I go along and as soon as I load them on my computer I erase a bunch more.

Cigalechanta, I'm sorry that I missed your post of 5/07, but if you are still following this thread, I can e-mail you some shots from Boston. Just delete the xxx's from:

And flygirl, good for you! There have to be some dandies in there!

If you check out buy.com you could get a memory stick to hold more than 80 photos..
also, 5 mega pixel pictures are not always needed. for half of my trip, i used 3 mega pixel size for fear I would run out of room, but actually I switched over to 5 megapixels and still had over 300 pics available on my 1gb memory card/
for six days, i say 200 pictures easily.

This is really a "how long is a piece of string" question - it all depends on the person and how many photos they take and what they want to do. At the end of April my partner and I spent a week in provence and hten a couple of days driving up to Paris. We both have SLRs - ended up with approx 3,500 pics between the two us - after deleting obvious out of focus etc
So only you can answer the question because it depends on how many YOU will take
