How is this Tuscan Hotel?

Going to Tuscany in September and plan to make San Gimignano our base. Would like any comments on the Hotel/BB "Poderi Arcangelo" in San Gimignano? Wasn't rated on hotel websites. I welcome any other suggestions for that area.

I have not stayed in that hotel, though have been to San G 3 times. We always stay at La Cisterna.

Right in the main square, with lovely views.

You are aware that the Poderi Arcangelo is an agriturismo about 9km outside of San Gimignano? It is a farm that has been converted to apartments and rooms.

I haven't stayed there, but it is a completely different experience to stay in the countryside. You will need a car.

Actually, the first time we went to San Gimignano, my mother trusted her travel agent to make our arrangements and we were in the countryside. I wasn't crazy about it. San Gimignano is best in the morning and evening, before and after the tour busses and crowds are gone.

Thanks for the info. We will have a car & thought it might be nice to be in the countryside. I am, however, checking out LaCisterna in the event we change our minds.

For a better location check out Hotel Pescille 3 miles south of town.

We stayed for 3 nights at Hotel L'Antico Pozzo (www.anticopozzo.com) in San Gimignano. I can't recommend this hotel enough! The rooms were spectacular. We were facing the street in, what I think they called, a junior suite. The furnishings and frescoes in our room provided just the right ambience for our stay in this charming Tuscan town. Hope this helps...
