How is this area of London? And ? about UK rental agency, "London Agent"

You have two things going against you. Only wanting 3 nights which does eliminate a fairly large % of properties, and such a short lead time. I normally look for London flats 6-8 months ahead and sometimes even that isn't long enough.
My two suggestions would be 1) try one of the Citadines - they are apartment hotels and often have more availability (but also may cost more)
AND
2) Look at Premier Inns like County Hall. Their rooms mostly allow 4 if two are under 16. How old are the kids? But again - they do tend to book up early.
If you can find a flat in Bloomsbury/Russell Square, Victoria/Pimlico, Westminster, South Kensington - great. But it is getting late and you may have to settle for a hotel. At least it is only for 3 nights so the close quarters shouldn't be that big an inconvenience.

"Our" apartment was great - location perfect, double-glazing eliminated noise issues from trains, but proximity of station was terrific for access to all of central London, and in walking distance of St Pauls, etc.
Merry Christmas to all!
