How far is this from the sites?

Ok, so I went onto travelocity and found this deal for hotel and airfare. But I am not sure how far this hotel is from all the sites of Florence. It says only 1 mile, but I am clueless as to how good the trasportation system is.

This is the address:

Airone
VIA TUSELLI 47Firenze, 50144 IT

some more info on hotel..

- Bus From Railway Station. Take The Bus Number 17 From
Piazza Auda To Piazza Puccini. The Hotel Is At 2 Minutes
Walking From The Bus Stop.

I am flying into Pisa and will be visiting Florence primarily. Is this hotel too out of the way for my Florence visit?

I believe the address is Via Toselli 147.

You can read the reviews on Tripadvisor.com

Since there are literally hundreds of hotels within a few minute's walk of many sites, I don't see why one should stay at one that requires taking the bus (or 30 minutes walk based on some reviews) for a mediocre hotel.

So, to answer your question - I'll look for something else.

I am trying to map it, but I'd say no--I think that's pretty out of the way and the historic center of Florence is compact and easy to navigate; why bother staying way out?? What price are you looking at? People on this board can direct you to more centrally located budget accommodations.

Yes! It's too far out of the way. There are zillions of inexpensive Florence hotels within easy walking distance of the important sites. Do a search by typing "Florence budget hotels" (without the quotes) into the search box at the top of the page.

I'm assuming you decided against staying in a convent as was suggested in your earlier post.

I would feel possibly guilty staying in a convent if I came in one night after partaking in too much vino!

but i will keep all of my options open!

Hi B,

If you are looking for inexpensive accomodations, I can highly recommend the B&B Peterson.

Hah, they will give you vino in the convent itself (at least the one I stayed at).

Do you have a city map for Florence?

I'm not much of a hyper-planner myself, but a decent city map is a necessity to avoid mistakes like booking a hotel that is too far from city center.

Whoa, BD girl! If you're traveling solo, one of the things you definitely want to avoid is too much vino, which could leave you vulnerable to all kinds of mishaps. I'm not an alarmist about safety, but please consider keeping your wits about you as you navigate a foreign city.

What Betsy says is very true.

I should elaborate on what I posted above. The convent I stayed at served dinner, if you opted for that choice. You could buy a bottle of wine from them, and they would hold onto it during the course of your stay. I wasn't at all interested in inebriation, but it was nice to have inexpensive wine (I'm sure they sold the bottle at cost) with a nice, inexpensive dinner.

And if you do plan on drinking to the point of tipsiness, you definitely don't want this hotel in the boondocks.

Nowadays, most convents run their guest houses as an income producer. They don't meddle in the off-premises behavior of their guests. I'm assuming that you don't plan on being disruptive in the convent itself. But, in addition to what others have said about imbibing to excess, Italians generally don't have a party culture that revolves drinking to excess. So be aware that being legless (if that what you intend to do) is not always looked upon with great approval, if you care.

I should have said "revolves around." And, no, I'm not tipsy myself!

If you plan on drinking wine, all the more reason to have a centrally located hotel!! Certainly you don't want to be trying to navigate public transportation in Florence "after partaking in too much vino"...

Seriously, I'm not scolding, I love my wine, that's why I always choose a decent hotel that is easy walking distance and in a reasonably safe and well located central area.

You can also look up the address on one of the mapping sites like www.via-michelin.com or www.mappy.com. See how far a given address is from the sights you want to see. (In French cities you can check out the neighborhood in contiguous photographs on www.pagesjaunes.fr.)

But, if you stay in the historic center of Florence, there's no need to use public transportation.

I've learned the hard way not to trust hotel descriptions of a "2 minute" walk... or 1 block from the beach, etc.

Wow! I am sorry, I didn't mean to give you all the impression that I was going to be tipsy....I was moreso making a joke about staying in the convent. Ha! What if I had impure thoughts or something!!

But seriously, I definately watch myself when I drink. I went to London and had a few drinks and I was definately in touch with myself and my brain told my body or vice versa that it was time to get back on the tube and back to my hotel. Good wine, though.
