I like thin-cut fries to be piping hot, crispy and sprinkled with nothing but sea salt.
But I especially love the fish & chips we get from our local chippy in Scotland: deep golden battered haddock and thick cut, slightly soft chips cut from potatoes with the skins left on, served with salt and sauce (a weird Edinburgh tradition - the sauce is a mix of brown sauce, vinegar and sugar and should preferably be squirted out of an old soda bottle with a hole pierced in the lid) and tasting faintly of the newsprint they are wrapped in.

Hi Ira,glad I am not the only one seeing pizza with the fries. Don't think anyone believed me when I got home and mentioned it.
Love Pizza, love fries, so guess next trip I will try this strange combo.

Does anyone else eat fries on salad?
Alot of places around here offer "Pittsburgh salads" (we are in Pennsylvania, but 4 hours from Pitt). They have either steak or chicken, cheese and fries over a bed of lettuce, tomato and onion. Served with ranch dressing.
Also, as for twice fried fries: Are these the extra yellow colored fries that we get in Germany? They are very tasty.

er... most fries are "fried twice" to get the crispy outside and fluffy center. Otherwise, they never quite cook inside and the outside gets to brown. I think (referring now to my cooking bible, a 30 year old version of "Joy of Cooking"...)

Oh I forgot about chip sandwiches! I remember my mom eating them when I was a kid. But they must have lots of butter or margarine on the bread.
Hmmm, I think I'll just have to have them for supper tonight!

LOL Suzie, I would have to disagree and maybe buy you a new cookbook! Growing up in Pennsylvania fries are a pretty common side dish and I don't know of anyone (i'm including the carnie vendors at ourt wonderful county fairs) who fries twice. The trick to crispy is that the oil must be very hot before you add the fries.

mmmm....frites!
I love them with mussels in Paris, left bank please..
I like to dip them in the mussel sauce (cream and bacon in mine!)
I like to dip them in Ranch dressing!
I like them crispy, salty and hot!!
I love them when my husband makes them for us at home!
And with chili, and with cheese! What doesn't go with frites!?

I have been craving fries since reading this thread, too, Scarlett.
I don't make homemade fries because if I started doing that, fries might be all I'd ever eat. I only get them on occassion when I'm out.

Statia darlin, everything is better with Thai Peanut sauce LOL
LOL Scarlett! Not according to my DH! I purchased a jar of the stuff years ago and made a very nice stir fry recipe. My DH always willing to try my cooking, dug right in and promptly spat into his napkin and said "that stuff tastes like bat sh*t!" Daughter and I laughed so hard at that! He was right, unfortunate for us, the jar was spoiled! Even now, he can't think about Thai peanut sauce!
